The Walter Pater Society of Japan, founded in 1962, is an association of scholars interested in the society's eponym, Walter Pater (1839 - 1894), a leading figure in European aestheticism and British fin-de-siécle culture.
Members are entitled to attend the Society's annual meeting, usually held on the third Saturday of October, to discuss academic subjects and participate in all of the activities of the Society. Members are also welcome to submit articles to the Society's biennial journal, Pater Ronshu.
The Society also annually publishes the The Pater Newsletter, which includes synopses of the papers read at the annual meetings, review essays of books related to Pater, and information about the members' publications and activities. Meetings are conducted mainly in Japanese, but English-language presentations and articles are also welcome. Membership fee is ¥7,000 (students: ¥3,500) per year.
